Toy Fair Exclusive Red Metallic Dune Bug

What:  Skylanders SWAP Force Exclusive Edition Toy Fair 2014 Dune Bug
Where Did You Get It: Special Delivery
What is Stock Like: Limited to Toy Fair 2014

Wow!  My Wednesday at the office just got a lot better...

FedEx swung by with the 2014 Toy Fair Exclusive Red Metallic Dune Bug!  The technical name is as listed out above "Exclusive Edition Toy Fair 2014 Dune Bug," but most will refer to him as Toy Fair Dune Bug, or Red Metallic Dune Bug etc.  The color looks great, but it is really one of those ones that needs to be seen in person...Judge for yourself:

Checking Out Toy Fair Exclusive red Metallic Dune Bug

The red coloring is definitely a metallic red...It is almost like an anodized finish, although I'm not sure how many of you deal with anodized aluminum fittings.  It is a deep, vibrant red...It is not maroon, yet I feel it is closer to that than "lipstick red."  You can get a decent feel for it via the pictures and video, but it really would have to be seen with your own eyes to accurately pick up on the color.

The entire figure is covered in the red paint...Tip of the top, staff, hands, all the way down to the base.

In game, he registers as:

It is important to remember, these were intended for promotional use...Something to entice folks to visit the Skylanders section at the Toy Fair and something "physical" to send home to always look back on and remember the display and series.

I know a lot of you have stated your allegiance to Dune Bug and think he is a great Skylander.  I won't lie...anytime that is the case (ie your favorite gets a variant of any sort), it is a great addition to your collection.  At the same time, I have to caution folks not to spend crazy money to acquire something...

Everyone knows how big a fan I am of Terrafin and Warnado.  There is a GITD Warnado that I've never seen, held, or thought of buying because of the crazy price.  My life has gone on just fine.  If Terrafin ever got a really cool variant I would love to find it, but if I came up empty I wouldn't think of spending a couple hundred to acquire it.  You have to be smart with your money and keep it all in perspective.

If you do pop for one that is sure to come up on ebay etc., I hope you get a fair deal.  He does look awesome and this is really the first time I have seen a metallic in person, let alone in red.  I don't think anyone would be disappointed in the alternative decoration here...it is very impressive.

Hopefully this post has helped to showcase Toy Fair Dune Bug for you.  If you are bummed out about how hard he will be to acquire I can offer good news that Nitro Freeze Blade is coming soon along with some special Easter themed Skylander singles that include Fryno, Punk Shock, and of course in-game variant Spring Time Trigger Happy!

Checking out TRU Exclusive Skylander Special Edition Gill Grunt

What?  Special Edition Gill Grunt (Series 2 Pose)
Where Did You Get It?  Toys'R'Us Promotion
What Did It Cost?  FREE via Promotion
What Was Stock Like? Limited, Have not seen him in Stores

Checking Out Toys'R'Us Exclusive Special Edition Gill Grunt

I received my Special Edition Gill Grunt from Toys'R'Us today...It was shipped via a padded envelope from Toys'R'Us.  I got an e-mail January 17th with a code to redeem him via their launch window promotion.  You essentially just had to spend $100 on Skylanders SWAP Force merchandise between launch day and the close of the year to qualify.

The offer changed course several times and was postponed once or twice, but nonetheless, TRU delivered a special Gill Grunt.  The odd thing is that the Special Edition Gill Grunt figure in question here isn't Series 3 Anchors Away Gill Grunt, but rather Series 2 Gill Grunt.  Not a big deal, but it would have been nice to have things line up perfectly.

That said, I happen to like his Series 2 pose the best so I won't complain too much!

The coloring has been dubbed anything from green to green metallic, but I think I will stick with "Fishy Emerald" as I called it in the video :-)

Fishy Emerald, or whatever you want to call it, actually fits Gill Grunt and this pose very, very well in my opinion.  I believe he will follow standard "chase" variant format where he will show up as a standard S2 Gill Grunt in the game, but likely at Level 5 with 2,000 or so Coins in the bank...I will verify this and you can see it in the SWAP Force Introduction videos.

I have heard of a few folks having trouble getting their claim heard by TRU, but they are honestly not that bad to work with...Keep trying, stay calm, and be polite...it will get you much farther than being irate.  If you truly qualified there should be no issue, eventually getting your SEGG.

That said, if you are a collector, operate on the "Keep one sealed and open another" methodology, or just need 2 for kids etc., TRU claims you can find them in stores and you can order them online.

For what it is worth, I have yet to see SE Gill Grunt in stores and no employees report seeing him, or being aware of his arrival.

I mention that first, because I have had numerous people get their SE Gillman just fine, but found that he arrived in poor shape thanks to the bubble mailer/padded envelope and delivery service, mostly the latter.  Mine came in relatively good condition aside from a slightly folded upper area...which I will take over dented plastic, or a loose figure.

Obviously, if SE GG hits store shelves, you can take your pick and get one in mint condition.  However, if that does not happen and you have to, or choose to order one in, my advice is to get several figures or triple packs.  Here is why: First off, when you spend $49 or more you get free freight.  Second, the additional figures, or Triple Pack, Adventure Pack, Battle Pack etc. will force your order to ship in a box.  I will caution that boxes are not fool proof, especially the cheap, thin ones, but they are more substantial than an individual padded envelope.

If you elect to order in a 2nd, or get your first SE Gill Grunt, here is the link:

Good luck landing your Fishy Emerald Gill Grunt!

Skylander Hunting Surprise: Purple Metallic Wrecking Ball and QuickDraw Rattle Shake Frito-Lay Bags

Wow...

November is off to a GREAT start!

Skylander Hunting: Purple Metallic Wrecking Ball, Topps Collector Card Album, & Quick Draw Rattle Shake Frito-Lay Promo Bags!

First off, I was making my usual rounds while running errands tonight and wanted to stop by Toys'R'Us for two reasons: First, I wanted to see if Legendary Zoo Lou (11/3 Street Date) was out, and if so, if I could purchase him.  Second, I was hoping to find some of the Frito-Lay promotional Variety Packs for Quick Draw Rattle Shake!

Well, neither of those panned out at Toys'R'Us.

However, I did find one (and then several more) of the Skylanders Giants Legendary Triple Packs that I kno a lot of you are after...It has L-Jet Vac, L-Ignitor, and L-Slam Bam.  The first one I found, had something else unique...sitting on the peg to the left was none other than Purple Metallic Wrecking Ball!

Yep...PURPLE METALLIC WRECKING BALL!  I was shocked to say the least!  This is the first time I've found a "chase" variant since Gold Flameslinger back in the day...

I didn't risk taking a pic in the event someone else spotted him...So I plucked him up and began looking for a 2nd Skylander (BOGO40%).  I nearly went with a 2nd Scorp or Rip Tide, but held off in order to pick up the Topps Collector Card Starter Pack (TRU Exclusive) for $9.99.  This turned out to NOT quality for the BOGO40%, but who knew?!  I didn't, but now you do...Should have gone for that Scorp or Rip Tide...oh well.

This Purple Metallic Wrecking Ball kind of makes up for all of that!  I'm not sure how he "broke" thru the system, but he was right there front-and-center staring at me...Especially since his interior packaging is broken and it casts him at a 45 degree angle.  He was literally about to fall of the peg as well.  Before you ask, YES I did scan everywhere for the other Purple Metallics, lol.

You can check out the Topps Collector Card Starter Pack Opening and Review in the next blog post...

Now, on to the grocery store...Shockingly, my local store had the Quick Draw Rattle Shake Promo bags!  I saw the Classic Mix over in produce (don't ask) and grabbed it.  On the chip aisle they just had a few...I checked and the codes seemed to be the same for roughly 8-10 bags and then change...

I found a Classic Mix with a different code and grabbed it too...if you were unaware, the codes are on the FRONT of the bag, right with the "Use By" date.

I will get a video up outlining that contest here shortly...

Also of note...Target had Wave 2 Skylanders!  I, oddly enough, saw quite a few Fire Kraken, several Grilla Drilla, and 1 Night Shift...No Boom Jet anywhere.

That said, this was a killer night in terms of Skylander hunting!  Next stop is, of course, TRU on Sunday for Legendary Zoo Lou.

Nitro Magna Charge Double Packs Exclusive to Target for Skylanders SWAP Force

I had speculated on this some time back, and now the answers have emerged...

While we had GameStop boasting the Dark Edition Starter Pack, we recently saw Walmart land Enchanted Hoot Loop.  We already know Toys'R'Us is getting the Legendaries once more, so that left Target...

The cycle did not disappoint as BOTH SWAP Force Double Packs featuring Nitro Magna Charge will appear at the retailer!  It remains to be seen if these will be as limited as Granite Crusher, a bit more lenient like Jade Flashwing, or easy picking like most Walmart specials...My advice, as usual, is get it while you can and avoid being caught an issue where you can't obtain it for retail.

The Nitro Magna Charge Double Pack Retails for $29.99 and comes in two flavors:

Nitro Magna Charge and Rattle Shake
Skylanders Swap Force Double Pack - Nitro Magna Charge + Rattle Shake - Target Exclusive

Nitro Magna Charge and Free Ranger
Skylanders Swap Force Double Pack - Nitro Magna Charge + Free Ranger - Target Exclusive
Note the placement of the "Only at Target" designation...This follows suit with what we have seen recently where labels have been printed with the packaging.

The cool thing here is that Nitro Magna Charge remains the same...So, you can simply pick which character you want.

This was obviously set up for those that buy a console starter pack.  Why?  The console starter packs include Wash Buckler and Magna Charge...That means you can literally add this Double Pack and be in business.

However, if you plan to pick up the 3DS Version, you will likely be disappointed as it features none other than Free Ranger and Rattle Shake.

But, remaining optimistic, those of us getting the console and 3DS versions, can take solstice in this...

Free Ranger has a Legendary form coming at some point, and with Rattle Shake's potential alter ego, or variant form unknown (or simply not happening), we can use this Double Pack to land a 2nd Rattle Shake, as opposed to winding up with 3 Free Rangers...That is my plan anyway.

The price of $29.99 doesn't do a lot given SWAP Force Skylanders will retail for $14.99, but it is hard to complain with a special figure included.

I am left wondering if Amazon will have anything "special" here right off the bat...I guess we will have to wait and see.

Unboxing Pokemon Rumble U Figures: Shiny Pikachu, Deoxys, and Lucario

This was the second half (Part 3 Overall) of our launch day haul from Thursday, August 29th, 2013!

I will archive this unboxing in the original post, which contains more info on the game and NFC communication, as well as a complete character list.  You can check it out here:

http://www.1ofwiisdom.com/2013/08/unboxing-pokemon-rumble-u-nfc-figures.html

The three Pokeballs we picked up this time had the following characters:

-Shiny Pikachu!!  Yep, that explains me wondering why it wasn't yellow, lol.
-Deoxys (Normal Forme)
-Lucario

I grabbed all three of these on Launch Day as well...we just divided them up into 2 separate videos to speed things up...mainly because my Nephew had to get home and do some homework.

That said, I was stoked to learn that the coloring wasn't off, but that we had actually landed a Shiny Pikachu!  From what I understand these are very hard to come by and as of this point in time we only know of Shiny Pikachu, Shiny Eeveee, and Shiny Genesect.  Here is the video:

Skylanders Giants Spooks up Pumpkin Eye Brawl

As much as things like Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon launching in the Spring and not Fall (cough, before Halloween, cough) bothers me a bit more than most, I have to like the fact when something meshes up properly.

You've likely heard rumors of Pumkin Eye Brawl for awhile now...I know a ton of people have asked me if he is legit.  My answer was yes...and now we can add him to our collections...at least in Canada.  Those of us stateside will just have to wait about a week now.

He was first leaked on cduniverse...then retail "juggernauts" Sears and Kmart added him for pre-order, albeit with no picture or box art etc.  This led to a lot more speculation, but helped convince me this was in fact a real deal.

How those two retailers opened up before GameStop, TRU, Walmart, Target, Amazon etc is still beyond me, but oh well...

I have to thank John from the blog and Facebook for letting me know we could actually pre-order PEB from GameStop!

  John D Cunningham's photo.

I was running errands last night and put in my pre-order.  I think the price was $15.99 (got some other stuff and don't have the receipt on me).  Pumpkin Eye Brawl should arrive in stores Wednesday, September 11th, 2013.

Big question past that was the usual:
-What Is His Name in the Game?
-Does he Look Different?
-Level 5 and Cash?
-How does he look on the portal?

Well, since our neighbors to the north have Pumpkin Eye Brawl (as of today) we can answer those questions.

Pumpkin Eye Brawl's name in the game is "Special Eye Brawl" and he does not start at Level 5 with any coins.  Also, in game he appears like regular Eye Brawl.  I will save the light up info for the actual unboxing video...which should hopefully come next Wednesday!

Nonetheless, this is another special Giant and gives folks like myself a legitimate, non-duplicate 2nd Eye Brawl to explore his other path.

At this time we don't know if he will fly off the shelves or stick around like Gnarly Tree Rex.  My thoughts are he should be easy to find initially, but with Halloween coming we could be in for a scare.  Parents that are aware of him, or kids that know of him, will likely request Pumpkin Eye Brawl over candy...this will put a dent in the supply.  The other, and bigger concern, is of course the scalpers.  They know PEB will be big around Halloween and without knowing if he'll be stocked deep, or shipped in limited quantities for a short time they might buy up stock.  I've already had a few Canadian readers tell me they have experienced going to their EB Games trying to land him today.

That said, I wanted to get the word out on Pumpkin Eye Brawl and his pre-order status.  GameStop is likely a better bet for most.  Currently, there is still nothing mentioning him on their website and I've yet to know of another major retailer with a pre-order.

As soon as I land him I will post pics and the unboxing!

Good luck landing your Pumpkin Eye Brawl!

Skylanders Giants Purple Metallic Wrecking Ball

This Tuesday turned out to be a pretty good day!

Much to my surprise a mystery box from Activision arrived...

Inside, I found Purple Metallic Wrecking Ball!!

I have to say, he looks great!  This will also hopefully serve to dispel the rumors that the Purple Metallics are "fake" variants.  They are, in fact, 100% legit.  I even got confirmation that the folks at Activision even refer to them as Purple Metallic, just as the fan base does.

As usual, this round of chase variants has taken form among 3 of the current cast of Skylanders.

On the Giant side we have Purple Metallic Eye Brawl.  Joining Wrecking Ball we have S2 Lightning Rod, who looks pretty slick in the Purple Metallic paint scheme.

I have to say, the coloring really does fit Wrecking Ball.  In fact, that is why in the video I said he would be the most likely to be found.  My logic?  He looks so good and at home in the Purple Metallic he might be overlooked by employees and or other Portal Masters.  While Eye Brawl and Lightning Rod look good in the same paint schematic, they do draw your instant attention as being "out of place."  Wrecking Ball, however, wears this variant coloring flawlessly.  You could literally whiten his teeth back up and all but the keenest Skylander Hunter would likely bypass him.

Sadly, I didn't have the heart to open him, BUT I did do my best to really highlight the coloring.  The pictures you have likely seen online from ebay auctions do this coloring no justice in my opinion.  That is why when I opened him I was taken back...The Purple Metallic looks way better in person that what I had seen online.

I do want to mention that the color actually shits and has a bit of a chameleon to it.  The shade you see depends on lighting.  At times he is dead on Purple Metallic, but twist him to one side or the other and you might catch a shimmer of a pink and a glistening dark blue...it really is quite impressive to see.

All that aside, many thanks to the folks at Activision for sending him out!  I can't stress enough that you do have the chance of landing a chase variant.  It all comes down to luck and timing.  While some are plucked by employees, a few will filter through...Wrecking Ball looks so good in this variant scheme he may be one to slip thru the cracks...

These three Purple Metallics kind of caught everyone off guard.  We have a few still looking for S2 Drobot, and some for Ninjini, but aside from the recent release of Gnarly Tree Rex, most have been sitting on their hands biding for news regarding SWAP Force.

Take this as a lesson..it pays to be diligent!  You never know when the next phase of variants could crop up...keep making the rounds and always be alert.  If you find anything let me know!  There are approximately 1,500 of each of these Purple Metallic Skylanders so stay on the hunt!

Skylanders E3 2013 Exclusive Copper Metallic Hot Dog In-Game, Chase Variant Status Confirmed

Well, you saw me retrieve E3 Dog from the fortress of my Power A Skylanders Giants Travel Tote Upper Compartment and Travel A Game Pack in mint condition...

We checked out the packaging, the printed "exclusive" shot, and the "not for resale" bottom end.  We then scanned the figure to get the best light on what I deem a copper metallic paint.

What we didn't do with that first review, aside from actually unbox him, is see how he registers in game.  Would he be like your garden variety chase variant, regular Hot Dog, or would he be special beyond belief with a fully maxed chip?  Well, this video provides the answer:

As you can see, here is what we learned:

2013 E3 Exclusive Copper Metallic Hot Dog registers as:

-Special Hot Dog on the character intro screen
-An actual addition the list (ie +1 Fire Skylander and +1 Overall Collection)
-Level 5
-2100 Coins

So the answer is...E3 Dog registers as a typical chase variant (think Silver Dino-Rang, Gold Flameslinger, GITD, Stone, etc).  And as expected, he shows up in game just like regular Hot Dog.

Again, this showcases why the blog is sometimes better than the video...You have your answer and it took just a few seconds to read...oh well, most prefer videos.  I am super tired, but also still being powered by the excitement of E3 and all the great content I still have yet to show you!

Just in case you missed it, here is the overview of 2013's E3 Exclusive Copper Metallic Hot Dog:

Order Molten Hot Dog from Walmart.com 2/23/2013

Well, I just wrapped up Chapters 12 and 13 on the Skylanders Giants Hard File and am seriously considering just recording mass upgrades on the Newlanders and Giants, BUT that is another story....what you care about at 6 AM is simple...

Molten Hot Dog is now up for order on Walmart.com for "Site-to-Store" or "Home Delivery."

As you know, I mentioned in the Weekly Update, that MHD was already on the west coast and making his way east...

I checked both Thursday and Friday night and we still had nothing.

If you want to avoid the rush, or potential scalper sprees, you can order from the comfort of home...

I still stand firm that this will be east to come by, but some people sleep better with peace of mind...

Anyway, here is the link:

I'm off to bed!

Weekly Update 2-7-2013: Molten Hot Dog and Metallic Blue Chop Chop

Hey Folks...long time no regular old blog post.

I will be taking care of that tonight, hopefully as I will update you on the Skylanders Giants Playthrough, recap some polls, launch some new polls, and of course make sure you've seen the two posts on Skylanders Swap Force (one with basic info, and another with the character roster).

For the time being, how about you take a gander at the Walmart Exclusive Molten Hot Dog!

So, how do you like Molten Hot Dog?  The best news here is that this is a Walmart Exclusive.  While I am not a big fan of the chain (mainly bc they are always packed), it is a great thing because they are about the only chain that does a good job of keeping their variants on the shelf.  With that in mind, I do not think it will be tough to land Molten Hot Dog.

The other big perk to this set up is that unlike many had speculated (myself included) we will NOT have to buy a Scorpion Striker Battle Pack at Walmart to land Molten Hot Dog.  Presumably they should start having them after the GameStop window closes and simultaneously have the Molten Hot Dog Single Pack for those looking to add him to their collection, or for those who simply don't care for the battle pack and magic items etc.

This could change when I see him in person, but right now, I have to give my personal preference award to regular old Hot Dog...he just looks better in flame red...the yellow looks like he rolled around in mustard.  Nonetheless, I look forward to adding him to my collection to have both upgrade paths active at the same time!

Similarly, if you are a Molten Hot Dog fanatic, I spotted this on Amazon a few nights ago:
Molten Hot Dog's Quiz Quest (Skylanders Universe)

It will retail for $5.99, but shows to not ship until May.  The earlier Quiz Quest Books have not impressed me, but this might be worth looking into...Here is the link

Before we get too far away from Molten Hot Dog, I want to bring up the good chance that we see Jade Flashwing, Polar Whirlwind, and Scarlet Ninjini show up as other store exclusives....The most likely outlets being Target, GameStop, and yet again Walmart.  These are known, in-game variants AND distinct from others like Stone Zook, Sparkle Sprocket, etc.

I had long ago speculated we might have Triple Pack #9 be Molten Hot Dog, Jade Flashwing, and Polar Whirlwind...I guess that isn't as likely now, but it would have still been a nice gesture to fans from Activision IF it came with acknowledgment PRIOR to all the others being released in single pack form.

Other Pending Characters

Before we get too wrapped up on an in-game variant, what about the "yet to be released" Skylanders?  Great question!  At this point no one really knows when Wave 4 will hit.  I would hope that we would see (finally) S2 Spyro, S2 Wrecking Ball, and S2 Drobot along with perhaps another LightCore release (Pop Fizz, Hex, etc).  We still need TRU to drop L-Chill.  I have to wonder if she won't be treated much like L-Trigger Happy.

Ninjini was given away at TRU in Times Square (yes I know, I don't live in New York either...and if I did I would be at work on a Tuesday).  There are all sort of ways to question what they did, why the did it, what they were thinking (if they were thinking), and how it doesn't cater more to scalpers than core fans, and in particular children (how many 8 year olds get to hop in their Civic or hail a taxi and stand outside of TRU in Times Square for 4 hours in the cold while missing Math, History, and Science class?  But I digress...).

Apparently, despite completely botching almost every BIG Skylanders event locally with 2-5 of each "new" and "highly demanded" figure, TRU and Activision stepped up with a LOT of Ninjini figures...most of which are now on ebay for 10x retail.

Again though, regardless of how stupid the timing was, it was a decent gesture and a nice way to kick off the announcement of Skylanders Swap Force and more importantly, their presence at the Toy Fair.

Metallic Blue Chop Chop 2013 Toy Fair Exclusive

And by the way, this year's Toy Fair Exclusive is a wicked-cool looking Chop Chop that I am dubbing "Metallic Blue."  If Activision wants to send one my way, I will gladly accept it and introduce it!  These are hard to find and will likely wind up going on ebay for crazy prices.  The Toy Fair is kind of an "insider" trade show, so unless you are in the business you kind of don't get access to it.  It would be nice if a few of them were kicked around to the core fan base, but oh well.  They really did a nice job on this one imo:

Please note that I usually like to give credit for "non-stock" or readily available photos, but this came from the first link of images...an ebay sale.  Where there are a TON more of these things...it makes you wonder if anyone that got one actually appreciates them and keeps them for their own collection, kids, or even just display at their store.  I'd give $10 for one, but not $150+

Skylanders Swap Force

I covered this one in great detail on Tuesday night.  I have what I believe to be as much info as possible including a post with general info and my personal thoughts as well as a stand alone post on the character roster.  You can find both of them here:

Recently Released

Thumpback and Eye Brawl

I was just on Amazon checking around on some things and if you have not gotten Thumpback or Eye Brawl, it looks like you can order both right now as they will be in stock on February 11th.  Also of note is that GameStop has had them very regularly now (online).  You should be able to land them much easier now than just a few weeks ago.  That said, I've still never seen them in stores aside from when I got them.

Also in-stock right now on Amazon and GameStop is Light Core Shroomboom!  I saw him for the first time in person tonight at Target.  It looked like they had just gotten a shipment of LC Shroomboom and Jet-Vac, as well as the others with their new "I Light Up" stickers.

Tough to Find Early Releases

There was still no signs of popular characters like: Slam Bam, Terrafin, Fright Rider, Chill etc.  I was checking for Cassie and Flameslinger is among those missing in action as of late.

My local Target FINALLY had Giants again (still no Granite Crusher...I truly think I got the last two they had and have had on launch day).  It was of course Swarm, Bouncer, and Crusher.

The only S2 from Wave 3 that seems to be easy to find is Cynder...that is kind of to be expected with most people getting the Starter Pack instead of the Portal Owner's Pack.

The most common in my area remains Sprocket...she is like the Boomer of Giants it seems...just doesn't sell that well.  Stump Smash was around and a very small number of single Pop Fizz characters were present....I would almost swear that the blue is darker than the one I got in a Triple Pack, kind of like what we saw with Stump Smash last time.  At another local store the most common is Drill Sergeant, which oddly enough, is never present at Target...go figure.

Skylanders Giants Playthrough

Well, I had planned to upload videos tonight, that isn't happening...these videos have been ready for a LONG TIME.  I think where we left off I am ready to upload Chapter 13 "The Oracle."  As you may have guessed, this one will consist of several parts.

Past that I have up through Chapter 15 edited and ready to go...

Following those chapters will be the Intro and Heroics on Thumpback and Eye Brawl etc.

The big news of the night in regards to the playthrough is what happened last night.  Finally, ALL of the GIANTS and NEWLANDERS are ready to battle Kaos!  They are still 100% box stock in terms of upgrades, BUT I have them done with all of the Speed and "tough" (ie Drobot, Double Trouble, and Zap) Heroic Challenges.

The next time I record it will probably be the final chapter and battle vs Kaos.

That said, after wrapping up the key heroics last night, I went thru Chapter 8 in my "Hard" file.  I got some key things done...First off, the part with the fiery furnace allows you go go in and back out over-and-over, which allows Hot Dog to complete his top tier quest of chasing birds away.

Speaking of birds, I replayed the level 2 additional times to get Jet-Vac's top tier quest taken care of with all three figures (Jet-Vac, Legendary Jet-Vac, and LC Jet-Vac).

The other cool offering here is the ability to let Fire Element Skylanders take out evil water minions...I accomplished that with every orange based Fire Element Skylander I have...

All-in-all a very productive night!

I plan to eventually make a new blog post covering quests and offering tips etc.  Stay tuned for that.

About to Play

Chapter 9 "Kaos' Castle" on the Hard File of Giants (Wii)...then off to bed!

Conclusion

It got way later than I had intended for it to get before wring this, but I suppose that is how things go for me...

That said, as soon as I get some free time I'll start the next batch of vids (Ch 13, 14, and 15) uploading.  I also hope to record the final battle vs Kaos very soon.  The plan is to do it multiple times (ie box-stock Newlanders, box-stock Giants, castaways (because I like so many of them), and then repeating with upgraded Newlanders and upgraded Giants).  And fear not, I havent forgotten about the Adventure Packs...it is just so nice to do things numerically in-order I am going to take them on AFTER Kaos.

I will have new polls up this weekend!

Well, I hope everyone has had good luck landing Thumpback and Eye Brawl.  Similarly, if you haven't already checked out my blog posts on Skylanders Swap Force, please do so!  I am off to Kaos' Castle!

Skylanders Giants: Gold Flameslinger Overview

Skylanders Giants: Overview of Amazon Exclusive Gold Flameslinger

!Please Check the * Below for More Information!

What?  Flameslinger, Fire Element, Series 2 Repose, Gold Amazon Exclusive

Where Did You Get It?  Amazon.com

What Did It Cost?  $9.99 plus tax, free shipping

What is Included?  Gold Flameslinger, Stat Card, and Sticker Sheet with Web Code

What Was Stock Like?  Non-existent, sparse, and now things seem to be well stocked.

Quick Character Info

Slogan: "Let the Flames Begin!"

Stats:

Power/Strength: 60/150
Defense/Armor: 40/150
Speed/Agility: 100/150
Luck: 80/150
Totals: 280/600

Conclusion

What a ride.  I was in the FIRST group of PRE-ORDERS for Amazon's Exclusive Gold Flameslinger.  Long story short, they cancelled them.  The next few weeks folks were very anxious and a very small group was lucky enough to get in on another pre-order...This time they honored it.

After those pre-orders shipped it seemed like Flameslinger would show up for a few minutes and be sold out.  I finally got in on the action and planned to order 2 only to find it was a 1 per customer deal.

I ordered it and while the package shipped fairly quickly, they really dragged their feet on getting it packed and sent out.  I like to tack on a few items to hit $25 and get the free Super Saver Shipping.  In the past, this has worked well and I would generally get the order around the same day, or a day after when the standard shipping would have gotten it to me.

Here lately, that has been far from the case.  It is usually 4-5 days BEFORE the order is even ready to ship. Once it ships their partnership with the postal service provides less than stellar delivery times. Granted, some of you may live close to a distribution center and get things within 1-2 days of shipping...I do not.

I still like Amazon, but not quite as much as I did a year or two ago.  They still have an incredible assortment of products at great prices, but with their decision to start charging tax coupled with their increasingly slow shipping speeds, I am finding myself preferring local options, or other online outfits that offer free shipping AND get it sent out quick.

I think any order not sent Next Day or 2nd Day Air should be processed at the same time regardless of whether a person has free shipping, standard, or expedited ground.

I am mainly mentioning this in case you are hoping to order Gold Flameslinger in as a Christmas gift, or later on a birthday gift etc.  Make sure you order well enough in advance if you like to take advantage of the Super Saver Shipping.

**I also want to stress that despite what I said in the video about the "1 per customer" seeming to be gone, that is not the case!  Amazon took the notification on the product page away, BUT if you try to change the quantity to anything greater than 1 it will tell you there is an error with your order and you have to reset the quantity to 1.  Not sure why they didn't just keep that on the product page as it initially was, but oh well.

On the bright side, this will help keep scalpers from buying 10-20 at a time and give YOU a better chance to land this exclusive variant.

***Also note that as a variant, Gold Flameslinger should register as "Special" in the game and come equipped with 2,000 Coins and begin at Level 5.

Skylanders Giants: GITD Sonic Boom Overview

Skylanders Giants: Overview of Walmart Exclusive GITD Sonic Boom

What?  Sonic Boom, Air Element Series 2 Repose, Glow-in-the-Dark (GITD) Walmart Exclusive

Where Did You Get It?  Walmart

What Did It Cost?  $9.96

What is Included?  GITD Sonic Boom, Stat Card, and Sticker Sheet with Web Code

What Was Stock Like?  Plentiful!  In store or online, you should be able to find GITD Sonic Boom very easily.

Quick Character Info

Slogan: "Full Scream Ahead!"

Stats:

Power/Strength: 65/150
Defense/Armor: 85/150
Speed/Agility: 60/150
Luck: 70/150
Totals: 280/600

Conclusion

While I am not a fan of Sonic Boom's Series 2 repose, I am a fan of GITD figures and the fact they are easily attained doesn't hurt.

I knew this could have been hard to come by, but it just wasn't worth it to me to walk into Walmart on Thanksgiving or Black Friday.

Luckily, as I predicted, GITD Sonic Boom was just as easy to find as the GITD Starter Packs.  Walmart, unlike most retailers, wants quantity.  If something sells, they want it on their shelves.  That works great for you and I.  While the easily attained GITD Sonic Boom may not fetch the same price as say a GITD Warnado or Stone Zook, it does give the average, every day, non-employee, non-scalper, a chance to pick up a real, in-game variant.

When you register Sonic Boom into Giants she should show up as a "Series 2 Special" and come with 2,000 Coins while beginning the campaign at Level 5.  Very cool!

Hats of to Toys for Bob, Activision, and select retailers for realizing that the every day enthusiast wants in on the variant rush...They still have the hard to obtain variants, but these "easier to find and cheaper to buy" variants are very nice.

I also want to stress that Sonic Boom's GITD paint job looks much better than Cynder's.  I know several people complained about how spotty Cynder was.  Whatever the issue was, it seems to have been resolved.   Sonic Boom looks great in the packaging and glows incredibly bright!

If you want GITD Sonic Boom I suggest you pick her up just in case production slows down or becomes spotty later on...As of right now she should be very easy to find and take home...Good luck!

Black Friday 2012 Skylanders: Green Gill Grunt, Gnarly Tree Rex, and GITD Sonic Boom

Well, not sure that should be the title, but it applies to some of the post and it is 4 AM so we are going to run with it for now.

Long story short I wrapped up a few recordings tonight and got back to my e-mail...

I found this from Walmart:

Umm yeah...

So what we first see is a 4GB Xbox with Skylanders Spyro's Adventure that includes an exclusive character...

Yep...

GREEN GILL GRUNT has finally surfaced!

Why it took over a year and what they are doing trying to move a base console and last year's version of the game remains to be seen, but if you want the "Microsoft Exclusive Green Gill Grunt" this is your chance...

Now more importantly for the rest of us (and those not interested in buying a console just to get an exclusive figure (although I admit it is a good deal if you don't have an XBOX and don't have Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure), we have this little gem:

We finally have a solid shot of the anticipated GITD Sonic Boom.  At least this is a Series 2 figure and not some rehash from late 2011.  That said, the box art depicts the Walmart Exclusive logo so I would have to guess we will see as many of these as we did TRDS (Translucent Red Drill Sergeant).

And lastly, we have Toys'R'Us finally advertising the Blue Wii with Skylanders Giants and the highly sought after Gnarly Tree Rex!

I have to say this one is tempting...and here is why.  The Blue Wii looks good, but when you factor in Giants costing roughly $75 that means you are getting the Wii for roughly $75, and it includes the Motion Plus Remote (roughly $40).

I don't need a Wii, but it might be nice to have a spare...I do like Blue...and Gnarly Tree Rex looks pretty cool.  That said, since I'm about to spring over some hard earned cash for the brand new Wii U, this one probably won't come to fruition for me...Now if this had been an exclusive pre-order that included a Blue Wii U and Gnarly Tree Rex with the Giants Starter Pack I'd have jumped on it...

Oh, and lastly you might have caught that Walmart is selling their GITD Exclusive Starter Pack for $38.96.  That is a heck of a deal!  Good enough for me to go out and stand outside a store with a bunch of nuts...no, but a good deal nonetheless.  If you are on a budget, or just really thrifty, this is a hot ticket.

Well it is now after 4 AM and I had better get to bed...

I caught Hot Head on Amazon tonight, had him in my cart and the total (saved another item) was $24.01...I needed $0.99 more for the Free Shipping.  Well, by the time I found another CD and added it in the item was gone...maybe I'll get lucky tonight and find him.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Blog Poll #29 Results: What Do You Do with Your Skylanders Packaging?

Blog Poll #29 "What Do You Do with Your Skylander Packaging" wrapped up this past weekend and the results were about what I expected.  This was mainly just an item of curiosity for myself and I figured a few others were likely interested.  We had 130 Votes and the results broke down as follows:

The Poll wouldn't fit in the screen grab, so I just mixed it...Here is the exact outcome:

-Open Them All, Throw It Away 87 Votes (66%)
-Open Them All, Keep Packaging 26 Votes (20%)
-Open and Discard all but Variants 13 Votes (10%)
-Don't Open Any 3 Votes (2%)
-One Open, One Sealed 1 Vote (0%)

So to put this one to rest amongst viewers and readers...The overwhelming majority of you open all your Skylanders and toss the packaging never to see it again and you do so without hesitation.  You bought it, plan to use it, and have no need for the extra rubbish in your life.

1/5th of you open them as above, but hang on to the packaging...I figure this is the practical collectors amongst us.  You bought it, want to enjoy it and use it, but you realize that years from now, when reunited with the original blister pack, it will likely have more value (assuming they have any value).  I currently fall in this boat, but have seriously considered tossing the packaging.  I have several sacks full of them at this point and I have never opened one up to enjoy the packaging...The sad thing is they really take up a lot of room by the time you accumulate the base 32 and Legendaries.  I'm still debating but odds are they will get trashed.

A dead-even 10% of you open everything but the variants...I also fall into this mix, but mainly just put this up to give the option to voters.  I have no plans of opening any of the variants I have been lucky enough to find...I figure having the regular version open is good enough, AND if I do decide to toss the regular packaging, it helps me feel better about keeping these around sealed.

3 of you simply don't open any...You are probably the thrifty diehard...Rather than buy 2 (one open, one sealed) you simply take advantage of the portal reading thru the plastic and have the best of both worlds...minus the web code cards etc.  Not at all a bad strategy if these ever have value, or you need to sell in the near future.

And 1 of us actually takes it to the extreme of having one open and one sealed.  This is probably a fantasy for most of us with a collector's tinge, but the cost and or space is likely prohibitive.  Fun and well prepared for years down the road...not bad if you can finance it.

Thanks to everyone who voted...I think stuff like this is interesting and hope you do too.

I will have a "big" poll coming soon...You do not want to miss it...Stay tuned!

Weekly Update 6/21/2012 and Translucent Red Drill Sergeant

Hey Everyone,

My apologies for not getting to update this much lately...it seemed like the last two weeks were just chock full of thunderstorms.  It was one year ago that I got the new computer...I like to think I'm doing it a favor not running it with the ridiculous lightning we have had lately.  That said, the storm pattern passes and it is just  hott...yeah, hot with two "t"s hott.  Really, it is that bad.

But hey, summer is officially here so what can you really expect...

Anyway, where to begin?

Skylanders Update

Ok, I have a few pics from my scrounging around.  I will try to add them soon.  I have not found anything new in stores, but did tonight...

You can read about it here {Yeah, right here, lol}

Translucent Red Drill Sergeant

Yep, you read right...And oh how I heartily laugh at the impecable timing.  I just recorded a video for Blue Bash and casually mentioned we might see a translucent red or green (I still think that would be killer with Stump Smash or Zook), and then as I am waiting for the video to render I come across the SkylandersGame  Retweet of a portal master who found a Translucent Red Drill Sergeant.  I know I'll get grilled in the video for it...somehow people that comment seem to not read descriptions or blogs, or do and then just arm themselves with ammunition to add to their "all knowing" state...fabulous.

That said, check it out:

Note the "Only at Walmart" sticker.  You all know how I feel about the "Only at Walmart" Drill Sergeant and "Only at Target" Whirlwind issue.  You have to assume, especially given Blue Bash being a TRU Exclusive, that it only makes sense Whirlwind would get a translucent version.

I have to say, I am not a fan of how they crank out multiple versions of the same Skylanders.  We already had a Gold Drill Sergeant...I'd much rather have had a translucent red Ignitor or some other character that doesn't already have a variant, but oh well.  The red does not look good in the pic, it looks pale.  That said, Translucent Blue Bash looked pale to me in pics, but looks awesome in person...I'll give the color the benefit of the doubt.

The biggest news with the unveiling of Translucent Red Drill Sergeant is simply speculation.  That's right...SPECULATION.  I just said it seems likely we see a translucent Whirlwind for Target.  What about doing Translucent Green?  Maybe a Translucent Orange Drobot?  Yeah, the options are endless, and so are the potential release dates.  This goes along with what I said all along about looking for Crystal/Glow-in-the-Darks....it makes you keep checking stock and hunting....just staying connected to the ritual in case you get lucky.  This is a nice nod for collectors, but I do wish we had a wider variety of "variants" as opposed to certain Skylanders getting multiple forms etc.

Skylanders Playthrough

Last night (June 21st, 2012) I recorded the Legendary Skylanders Upgrades and Gameplay in Quicksilver Vault.  I also took care of the "You didn't do the Golden Yamato Blast" crowd by doing it several times at the ruins and in the level.  That is really, for what it is worth, the end of the main uploads to the blind playthrough.  All I can really upload now is just taking multiples down their other path and then comparing the two...which I may very well do.

Skylanders Blog Posts

Within the week you should see two new posts: My Favorite Skylanders and My Upgrade Path Suggestions.  Both will be pretty simple, but will give you an idea of who I like and why, as well as some insights on upgrade paths if you are debating what to choose.

Skylanders Project

I do have one more thing planned.  I will have to see how people respond to it, but if it goes over well I will see it out to the end...I think a lot of you will enjoy it, despite being less than perfect.  More to come very soon!

Next Project

As most of you know, I have recorded quite a bit of the Mario Kart Wii Playthrough.  I even have a few of the videos ready to upload.  You should see them before too long.

That said, I have 2 other games going simultaneously.  One I started to take a break from MKW...I had horrible audio lag on the game end that really screwed up the recording...It is the worst I've ever had.  That said, it will make the commentary not sync at all.  Furthermore, to "re-do" that portion, I kind of have to start over...That isn't horrible since it happened early on, BUT it would also make this segment more of a rehash as opposed to totally blind, which I like.

With that in mind, last night, kind of out of the blue, I just decided to start recording something else...it should go quick and I might alternate uploading Mario Kart Wii and this particular title.  All I will say is it is on the Wii, pretty new, and will probably either be loved or hated...Feel free to comment with your guesses, lol.

More to Come

There is actually quite a bit of  news to post up, but I am going to wait.

I do want to remind you to check out the Mario Tennis Open QR Code Post I made and the Skylanders: Giants Post I created just earlier this week.

Also, the most recent blog poll closes today.  It is of course just asking what you do with your Skylanders Packaging.  With it expiring, you know I will posting something new...but what?  This may very well tie in with something posted above...

Stay tuned!

Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure Translucent Blue Bash

Checkmate Raincheck, Checkmate!

Many of you will recall my scenario with Translucent Blue Bash, which I have dubbed TBB for short.  I don't like the "show up early to a store Sunday morning, stand in line 2 hours, get in, and maybe land an item...and then possibly get back to your vehicle without having to fend of enraged lunatics" concept, so I just go with the flow.

As it was, "the flow" brought me to TRU about 20 minutes after the last TBB left the shelf.  Turns out my store had 12...but they were allocated 15 rainchecks.  Yeah, naturally I inquired about that and sure enough, I got one of the last rainchecks.

Instead of hearing, "We will call you when it comes in, should be 2 weeks max," I got this line, "We really don't know anything definitive aside from to check back in June since that is the estimated delivery date."

Wait...what?  June?  Keep in mind, this went down early April.  There was no guarantee you'd get your raincheck filled and two months wait time seemed a bit extreme.  Nonetheless, I held on to the little raincheck and despite ridicule, held on on to the hope it would get filled.

Well I ran into TRU early this month and was told they knew nothing.  I had an associate nice enough to run the ticket and they found a store with 12 on the floor.  Everyone in the immediate vicinity was all ears at this point...20 mins later and one manager making their way to the phone at a distant and mythical TRU branch and we all found there were none on hand.  I was told they would do their best to hold one for the raincheck when and if they ever came in...

This Sunday the TRU ad boasted the return of TBB.  I was thinking, "Sweet, I'll pick it up...I bet they must have decided to crank them out like LTH (Legendary Trigger Happy).  Come to find out, that is currently not the case.  I walked in, didn't see any, and was then told they sold the last TBB yesterday (who hasn't heard that one a million times with Skylanders, lol).

I brought up the raincheck and associate and boom...

The associate who said they would make sure to hold one for my raincheck did just that...Pretty cool.  That is going above and beyond the call of duty imo, but I sure appreciate it.

I don't know if TBB has seen his run (roughly 27 per store), or if in a few weeks everyone will trip over them like LTH.  I really hope it is the former as I'd like to see the real variants remain limited.

Fittingly I mentioned the prospect of having Translucent Red or Translucent Green Skylanders surface soon...Little did I know I would find Translucent Red Drill Sergeant (TRDS) in a Tweet while I had the video uploading to YouTube.  I have more info on that and the picture in the Weekly Update Blog Post.

That said, enjoy the video...TBB is really a deep, dark blue in person and looks great!

Here is the basic info from the video:

What: Translucent Blue Bash, TRU Exclusive
Where Did You Get It?: Toys'R'Us
How Much Was It?: $9.99 + Tax
How Many Were There?: None, I had a rain check from April
Should I Get A Blue Bash? If you find one, yes...otherwise, don't worry about it.
Is he Blue in the Game? No.
What is Special About TBB? TBB is a rare variant.  He starts out at Level 5 and with 2,100 cash.

I tried to give you the run down on TBB, and then wanted to stress to act quick if you have a rain check, or go ahead and hit the store if you haven't been.  I know many of you have completed your collection, or just lack a few and have given up on TRU...they are now worth checking out once more on the off chance you can land a TBB.

Like I say though, don't stress if you can't find one...I figure most people get them to sell them...and please, don't buy them from scalpers.  I don't have but 3 variants now, and I am getting by just fine without Silver Eruptor and Gold Drill Sergeant etc.  Treat them as special finds...if you waltz in a store and see one, get it and enjoy it.  Otherwise, just save the money.

For those of you with kids continuing on about the "Level 5 with 2100 Coins" bit, just tell them to take Bash through Quicksilver Vault...he should come out with a nice chunk of change and roughly Level 5...realistically  he should best both of those.

Good luck!

Blog Poll #28 Results: Who is Your Favorite Crystal-Clear and Glow-in-the-Dark Skylander?

Blog Poll #28 took a look at the most recent release of variants and asked, "Which Crystal/Clear and which Glow-in-the-Dark Sklyanders are your favorite?"

Here are the results:

Crystal "Clear" Skylander 158 Votes

1. Wham-Shell 96 Votes (60%)
2. Cynder 26 Votes (22%)
3. Stealth Elf 26 Votes (16%)

Glow-in-the-Dark Skylander 155 Votes

1. Warnado 106 Votes (68%)
2. Zap 29 Votes (18%)
3. Wrecking Ball 20 Votes (12%)

It is always interesting when Polls are stacked and have almost the same number of votes...You would think if you vote in "Clear" you would just glance down and vote for "Glow-in-the-Dark."  I've never known if people just don't see the other poll, or simply just don't like any of the characters, or like multiples and can't pick just one.  Nonetheless, the winners have something in common.

Both Wham-Shell and Warnado are among the last wave to be released, which as I've mentioned seems to be a regular trend at this point in time.  In fact the first poll shows that Wham-Shell, Cynder, and Stealth Elf finished in backwards order (newest release to oldest release).

The same was almost seen in the "Glow in the Dark" poll, but the results between 2nd and 3rd (9 Votes) are so marginal it doesn't matter.

Both Warnado and Wham-Shell cleaned house.  2nd and 3rd were both super close.

As for my liking, I'm not sure the "clear" really suits any of those three, but I suppose it would best suit Wham-Shell, then Stealth Elf, and then Cynder.

One thing I continue to say is how I feel like they nailed the character selections for the Glow-in-the-Dark Skylanders.  I think all three are very welll suited to being "Glow-in-the-Darks" and can't picture them being better in any other variant form.

As much as I like Warnado, I think I'd rank them: Zap, Wrecking Ball, and then Warnado.

Nonetheless, thinks to all who voted!  I continue to look, but have yet to find a Clear or Glow-in-the-Dark Skylander...

Stay tuned for more polls!
